FORTHCOMING EVENTS

AGM / Wine and Cheese Party

Friday 15th June 2012

Haywards Heath Town Hall

Boltro Road

Haywards Heath

7.45pm for 8.00pm

The AGM is fast approaching and, as usual, will provide an opportunity for Members to have a say in how the Society is run.  The President will comment on this current year’s events and the Hon. Treasurer will provide an update on how the Society is faring financially. A key item on the agenda is the election of the Committee for the coming year as, in line with the rules of the Society, some committee members will be standing down.  We urgently need a new Secretary to replace Laura who has moved to Eastbourne, but nominations will also be welcome for the posts of Vice President and Treasurer as well as general committee members.  These tasks are not unduly onerous as the workload is spread across the whole committee so, if you feel you can help, please get in touch with Carol Blake (01444 412125) or send an email to president@midsussexcaledoniansociety.org.uk

The Society can only continue successfully if sufficient members are willing to take on such tasks.

After the business part of the AGM, there will be a chance to socialise and enjoy a glass of wine accompanied by a selection of  delicious cheeses.

There is no charge for attending but we will be holding a raffle to defray the costs of the hire of the hall and the wine and cheese.

Please make an effort to attend as this is an enjoyable social event as well as being an opportunity to have your say in what we are doing.

Golf Day / Summer Garden Party

Friday 29th June 2012

Hollingbury Park Golf Club,

Ditchling Road, Brighton

BN1 7HS

The annual golf competition for the Mid Sussex Caledonian Society Trophies will be held this year at Hollingbury Park Golf Club on the afternoon of Friday 29th June.

It is an established 18-hole downland course overlooking Brighton and was apparently used in the (distant) past as a qualifying course for The Open.

Format, as before, will be individual Stableford with a Yellow Ball team competition. There will be individual prizes and a prize for the Yellow Ball competition. Members are welcome to bring guests. The event commences with a sandwich lunch at the Club at 12 noon. The first tee time will be 12.50pm.

Cost per player is £24.00 (including lunch).

This event is open to members and guests.

Directions to Hollingbury Park:

From the A23 take the A27 eastbound towards Lewes.  Leave the A27 at the first exit (Hollingbury Ind Est)  and go straight over the roundabout at the end of the slip road (Coldean Lane). Go up the hill and take the first turn on the right. (This is Ditchling Road, although it goes away from Ditchling). Drive 1.3 miles south along Ditchling Road, then take the first left to the Golf Club.

From Ditchling head due south from the crossroads in the centre of the village, then bear left into Beacon Road towards Ditchling Beacon. Go up over the Beacon and continue along the Downs until the T junction with Coldean Lane. Turn left up Coldean Lane, then immediately right along Ditchling Road.  Drive 1.3 miles south along Ditchling Road, then take the first left to the Golf Club.

RECENT EVENTS

Family Walk and Scottish Tea

Sunday 13th May

After all the recent rain the sun finally emerged in time for our annual walk.  Starting from the village hall in Chelwood Gate our group of 20 proceeded north into Ashdown Forest, initially taking the  tracks through the heathland with excellent views back towards the South Downs.  We then turned east towards Vachery Wood and then down through bluebell woods to the tranquil Chelwood Vachery Forest Garden with its ponds and follies. We returned along a bridle path past the Chelwood Vachery Estate and back to the Village Hall for the usual excellent spread.  Many thanks to Laura, Diane and Jenny for producing a very welcoming cup of tea to go with the goodies.
